underwater secrets

did you know that fairies hide under lily pads?
they tell tadpoles stories about what awaits them up above,
whispering secrets about legs and webbed feet,
of the sweet crunch of wings on tongues,
the power of chirruping, vibrant song in the night.

they sing soft lullabies in the moonlight
to the wriggling babies asleep in the gently rocking water,
crooning dreams of the summer air into their little bodies,
encouraging their subconscious straining
as they grow outward and swallow themselves up inside new shapes,
morphing into tiny, smooth singers,
entirely new creatures except for their eyes-
fairy eyes glowing dark and wet under the stars
as they murmur along with their memories of the time spent below.
